The Thirsty Pug

Today I’d like to take a moment to give a shout out to one of the very best bottle shops in CNY. The Thirsty Pug in Auburn, NY opened back in June and it quickly became my go-to place for craft beer. The shop’s owner, Mike Sigona, has a passion for craft beer and it shows. His friendly demeanor paired with his vast knowledge of beer makes for great conversation each time you stop in.

The Thirsty Pug values quality over quantity, which is why you’ll find a somewhat smaller, yet obviously purposefully selected and constantly updated selection of beers. The shelves are stocked with the best, fresh craft beer you can find in the area. You’ll never find a dusty bottle on these shelves! Organizing their inventory by style and similar flavors helps customers navigate the store and easily find new beers to try.

One thing I really love is the large chalkboard wall that serves as a guide to those who may be unfamiliar with many of the craft beer names but are looking to expand their horizons. Comparing a more common beer (or wine!) to a similar style that can be found in the shop can be very helpful. I recently suggested that my red wine-loving friend who typically says she doesn’t like beer go ahead and try a Flanders Red Ale based on Mike’s recommendation board and she was over the moon about it.

Most of the inventory is available for sale in single bottles which is awesome because you can leave the store with a pack of six different styles of beer (or often more than that, if you’re like me). Mike will also happily make suggestions and help you create your own custom six pack.

Lots of people ask me where I get my “fancy beers” and 90% of the time, the answer is The Thirsty Pug. It’s one of my favourite places to shop! In addition to the excellent selection of beer, you’ll also find some tasty snacks for sale.

If you haven’t been to The Thirsty Pug yet, I highly recommend making the trip and checking it out. You won’t be disappointed. Also, if you like them on Facebook, you’ll be able to keep track of tastings and specials that are going on (such as a Heady Topper giveaway!).
